This is a large island with a bar overhang for seating. The top was fabricated with two off-the-shelf butcher block countertops. We used specialized joinery techniques to seamlessly join the two halves together to appear as one giant butcher block (which would be astronomically expensive).  After the electrician relocated the new light fixture above the island, we even patched the ceiling and matched the existing texture.
